Bikes away - time for skiing!

What a difference a few days make. Last Friday I was mountain biking at Gunstock , and today we've got a foot of snow on the ground! So I guess its time to winterize my bikes, dust off my indoor trainer, and break out the skis. Of course, if we get a sudden warm spell, I might still squeeze in a few more rides..

It will be interesting cross-country skiing on the sames trails at Gunstock that I've been riding this year - maybe I'll see some of you there!

During the winter months we'll be working on improvements and additions to the Lakes Region Bicycling web site and we'd love to hear your suggestions and comments. Drop me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Happy Holidays to all!

New Ahern Trail Map Available

A new map of the Ahern State Park mountain biking trails is now available! This map was provided courtesy of the Central New Hampshire NEMBA . They handed these out at the November trail maintenance day a the park.

Visit the Ahern State Park page to download a PDF or JPG version of the map.

Great Late Fall Riding

We've been blessed with beautiful weather this fall - so get out and get in some late season rides!

I've been doing a lot of mountain biking - at both Gunstock and Ahern State Park . The Central New Hampshire NEMBA did a great job with its trail maintenance day at Ahern earlier in November. If you haven't riden Ahern, check it out! ( I just got my hands on a hand-drawn map of the trails at Ahern - I'll get it scanned in and posted to the site soon).

Most of the trails at Gunstock are also in great shape - but stay away from the Maple trail - its all torn up from construction equipment and the mud goes up to your hubs (I speak from personal experience with a spectacular faceplant in the mud that resulted in my bike sticking out of the mud upside down!)

I've also heard that the riding at Franklin Falls continues to be great. I expect to be riding my mountain bike until the snow gets too deep - hope to see you out there too!

Road riders have also been out. I saw a group of three riders tackling the Timberman Triathlon bicycle route the other day - it was cold out but they looked well dressed. If you've moth-balled your road bike for the year - you might want to take it out for another couple of rides before the winter weather rolls in (it will get here eventually....)

Amd finally, for those of you who are looking for great deals on bicycle gear, the Pearl Izumi outlet store in North Conway has announced 40% off their already discounted pricing starting at midnight on Thanksgiving and running until 7:59am. They have other discounts throughout Black Friday and the weekend. To view the entire add, use this link .

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving - and urging you to get out and ride after the holiday - you'll be glad you did!
